"Wiltshire Date Nights"
These are from my latest series of paintings...
...where I visit places around Wiltshire and invite a different animal with me on each date...
...in other words, I am painting animals in different Wiltshire settings.

Lion at Sibury Hill
I had a date in Wiltshire
By the Silbury Hill
I was nervous and excited...
...a lion was sure to thrill.
There he sat upon the grass
His mane blowing in the breeze.
His huge head turned away from me,
He said, “sit with me..please”.
I did as I was told
And sat there quiet and still
I wanted him to look at me...
...a lion was sure to thrill.
And thrill he did with stories
And showing off his mane
Roaring, prowling, stalking
Whispering my name.
He let me stare in awe at him
While he spoke and shook his head
He told me not to speak of this date...
...so I painted it instead.

Chimp at Avebury Stones
I had a date in Wiltshire
By the Avebury stones
A serene mystical place
.... he said not to bring our phones.
It should have been romantic
Beside the stoney shape
Looking up at the stars together
.... but I was with an ape!
He climbed up high and laughed
And leaped from stone to stone
I wish I took a photo
.... but I didn’t have my phone.
As he danced under the stars
He looked at me and said,
“No one will believe we’re here”
.... so I painted him instead.
